People who help us
Our new topic is ‘People who help us’ and today we had our first visitor. Kerry is a paramedic on the air ambulance and she came to speak to us about her job. Kerry flies to help people in trouble and takes them to the hospital really quickly. Kerry showed us her uniform and she even let us try on her helmet!
Healthy Eating
In PSHE today we started talking about how we keep healthy at school. We talked about the exercise we do and the choices we make at lunchtime. Some of us visited the salad trolley today so we could add something healthy to our lunch. Can you spot our healthy choices?
Fire Engine visit
We celebrated Chinese New Year by inviting parents to join us for a pop-in session. We got very crafty with lots of Chinese themed activities. Thank you to all of the parents for joining us. In the afternoon we got to try some Chinese food, it was yummy! We also practised our Dragon dance around school using the dragon we had made at the pop-in session.
We had a visit from Karl and his guide dog Bilko. We learnt all about Karl and how Bilko helps him. Karl told us how Bilko was trained and the harness that he uses when he is working. He also told us that we must not stroke a guide dog when they have their harness on, we must always ask the owner first. Then we all got to have a little stroke, he was so soft!
We had a visit from Caroline, who works for the RNLI. She told us all about the lifeboats and lifeguards. She showed us the flags that we see on the beach and what they mean. Some of us got to dress up as a lifeguard! Caroline also told us how dangerous inflatables can be in the sea.
This afternoon our outdoor area was destroyed! We had to work together to find out who had turned all of our tables upside down and left everything on the floor. We used fingerprints and clues to work out that Mrs Gaymer was the culprit.
Today Sarah the paramedic and Lloyd the turtle came to visit us with their new Ambulance. They showed us lots of exciting equipment. Some of us got to test out the ECG machine and measure our heartbeats. We all went outside and got to see inside the Ambulance. We also listened to the siren and some children got to sit in the drivers seat!
We dressed up as our favourite superheroes and had lots of fun pretending to be them for the day. We had to fight lasers, overcome obstacle courses, find numbers and make shields. It was lots of fun!
During arts week we have looked at our focus artists for Reception; Walt Disney and Piet Mondrian. We have watched lots of clips of cartoons that Disney has created such as Mickey Mouse. We have even created our own Mickey Mouse using paper plates. We then used lots of different media to recreate one of Piet Mondrian's most famous paintings. On Wednesday we had our Arts Focus day where we took part in lots of different arts activities such as singing, making masks and dancing to the greatest showman. We even got to have a go at some circus skills.
To celebrate World Book Day we all dressed up as our favourite book character and brought into school our favourite book. We enjoyed a reading cafe with our parents in the morning and wrote our own class story about Dingle the Dragon.
Miss Walker brought her Remote control car to school. She showed us how it works and how fast it can go. She is part of Dudley Radio Car Club and showed us some videos of the cars racing round.
