Spring 2019

People who help us

This half term we are looking at people who help us in and out of school. We will be having lots of visitors in to share information about their jobs.

Today the firefighters from Stourbridge came to visit us. Miss Clarke got to dress up and we all got to have a look around the fire engine.

Technology

Our topic this half term is technology. We will be looking at the different types of technology we use and how we use it. The children have been using cameras to take pictures of things around the classroom and their friends.

We had a go with Tappy the robot. We talked about what robots do and how they work. We watched some videos of robots in a car factory and humanoid robots like ASIMO by Honda.

In Maths this week we have been looking at symmetry. We used rulers to mark in lines of symmetry on shapes and on the computer. We used the equipment outside to make symmetrical pictures.  Some of us even drew our own symmetrical pictures using the chalk.

National Storytelling Week

This week we celebrated national storytelling week by bringing our favourite book to school. We shared our favourite book with our class and discussed our favourite parts and characters.

"My favourite book is called 'A Squash and a Squeeze'. I like it because it is very funny. My favourite character is the goat."

"My favourite book is the Lion King. I like the part where the mum holds Simba up."

PE - Dance

Following our interest in robots, we have been dancing like robots in PE. We copied a robot dance then made up our own moves to some robotic music.

“Robots move with straight arms”  “Robots are made of metal”

People Who help us

We have been thinking about people who help us but this week we thought about animals that help us. Today we were lucky enough to have Karl visit us with his guide dog Quasia. Karl explained to the children how Quasia helps him to be independent. Quasia was a real star and let all the children stroke her.

Today we had a visit from The RNLI. Caroline came to see us and told us how lifeguards and lifeboats can help us. We learnt how to stay stay on the beach and which number to call if we got into trouble by water.  Caroline showed us which flags we should look out for at the beach. Some of us got to dress up as lifeguards and life boat men.
