I have been a Governor for over 17 years – firstly as a Teacher Governor at the primary school where I taught and then as a Governor and Chair of Governors (since 2005) at a local primary school. I continue to be Chair of Governors at this school.
As Chair of Governors, I have led the Governing Body during a period of considerable change and progress - from requiring special measures, a change of headship, through to the school being judged as a good school at its latest OfSTED inspection (February 2015). Results at the end of KS2 are now above the floor target and in line with national average. Governance has been judged to be a strength of the school.
After leaving full-time teaching, I have continued to teach part-time and also worked for the past 14 years as a Clerk to several Governing Bodies. Combining teaching and clerking, I have gained a considerable amount of knowledge and experience.
In addition to being Chair of Governors, I have also been appointed as an additional Governor to the Governing Body of a school that was judged by OfSTED to require improvement (OfSTED, December 2014). Since joining this Governing Body, I have had input in reorganising the Committee structure to include a School Improvement Committee of which I am Chair. There is now a stronger focus on raising attainment and progress at the School.
I have recently become a National Leader of Governance following my successful designation in January 2016.
